Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is considered as worst (superlative for bad) luck in west. There had been 2 Hollywood movies with that Title one way back in 1980 and one more recently in 2009. I remember even in Huckleberry Finn there was a mention on Friday the 13th being a baddddd day.

2012 is an interesting year. We have three Friday the 13th, this year in the months of Jan, April and July. I cant remember anything majorly untoward happenning these days. But it is interesting to see how Kollywood our most extravagant and yet utterly superstitious industry has reacted to this phenomena.

All Movies release on Friday as a generic norm. so what happenned on these two days:

Jan 13th. We had two movies set for release, Vijay's Nanban , and Maddy's Vettai. But these did beautifully dodge this without once mentioning this as a reason for the change. Nanban realsed on Thursday and Vettai on Saturday. This did turn out to very positive for Nanban, For example on Thursday and Friday, most big theatre were running Nanban on maximum or all of its screen which could have helped it mass up a huge amount of collection. Sankar tackfully said that it was a startegy to enable the family get seats on the opening day by releasing a day early. If he seriously meant it, need to see when his next movie releases.

April 13th - Udayanidhi stalin probably went his grand daddy's way to defy this stigma. As of now, OK OK doesnt seem to have had a dooms day inspite of the reportedly poor performance by the Hero and solely riding on Santhanam for the entertainment factor and Brand Rajesh.

Hopefully, July 13th is more entertaining and has more movies to look out for. Well there are many more months to go for Dec 21, 2012 the end of Mayan's calendar but until then keep us entertained Kollywood.
